Steamed Chicken Meatballs

Not all of our homecooked dishes are difficult to make or use long list of ingredients or spices, or even take a long time to cook. This one is one of the example, very easy and very quick to make. It only used all the sauces that we usually use in our daily cooking and no need to chop garlic, shallots, or onion.

For best result, only use chicken tights because they contain more fat than chicken breasts, and they are juicier. You can also use pork shoulder. For the gravy, I used my homemade chicken bone broth, but you can also use only water or regular chicken stock. This dish is best eaten with hot steamed rice. The meatballs were soft and juicy and really delicious.

Ingredients:

For the meatballs:

  1. 450 gr boneless and skinless chicken tights, minced
  2. 1 tbsp soy sauce
  3. 1 tbsp sesame oil
  4. 1/4 tsp salt
  5. 1/8 tsp ground white pepper
  6. 1/4 tsp white sugar
  7. 1 tbsp tapioca starch

For the gravy:

  1. 100 ml water or chicken stock or chicken bone broth (I used chicken bone broth which was already salted)
  2. 3 slices of ginger
  3. 1 tsp soy sauce
  4. 1 tsp oyster sauce
  5. 1 tsp sesame oil
  6. 1/4 tsp white sugar
  7. 1/8 tsp ground white pepper
  8. Salt, to taste (add salt if your liquid is not salted)

Other:

  1. Minced green onions
  2. Fried shallots

Method:

  1. Prepare a steamer and start boiling the water
  2. In a heatproof bowl or a deep plate, mix all gravy ingredients. Taste and adjust the seasonings
  3. Mix all ingredients to make meatballs, then take a spoonful of the mixture and with a wet palm, roll into a ball. Place the meatball on top of the gravy. Do this with the rest of the mixture
  4. Steam for 20 minutes or until the meatballs are thoroughly cooked
  5. Remove from heat and sprinkles fried shallots and green onions
  6. Serve with steamed rice
