Mac and Cheese

Macaroni and cheese are one of my lil boy’s favorite food, but I’ve never made my own mac and cheese. I usually make macaroni schotel (with corned beef), but since at that time I didn’t have corned beef in my fridge, I decided to try this “mac and cheese” only recipe. Well, I added ham slices too actually, since I still want my macaroni to have more color and rich in taste.

The dish turned out to be wonderful and delicious. I packed three cups of mac and cheese in lil boy’s lunchbox, and as always…..the first thing that I do when he comes home from school is to check his lunchbox…………and it was empty. Phew…….glad he liked it. He said it was delicious.

  • 100 gram macaroni
  • 1 slice of ham
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 3 tsp butter
  • 3 tbsp bread crumb

  1. Cook macaroni according to the package directions. Drain well
  2. Put macaroni and ham in cups (about half cup)
  3. In a saucepan, melt1 tsp  butter. Add flour and stir quick (with spatula or wooden spoon)  to make a roux
  4. All milk slowly. Keep stirring constantly while adding the milk
  5. Add cheese. Stir well until all the cheese is melted and the sauce is becoming thick. Keep low heat while making the sauce
  6. Set aside the sauce
  7. Add the sauce over macaroni until the cup is almost full. Stir well
  8. In a saucepan, melt 3 tsp butter (low heat). Add bread crumb, stir quick until brown. Add a pinch of salt for extra flavor to the bread crumb
  9. Spread the bread crumb on top of the sauce
  10. Bake for 30 minutes (175C)
